Areas of Expertise
I normally offer client eight sessions initially, thereafter we can review if further counselling is recommended for you. The eight sessions of short term counselling, will give our sessions an element of structure and may support you in working towards a particular goal or positive outcome. I am more than happy to discuss any questions you may have, either over the phone or during the first session.
Psychotherapy is used to explore emotional problems, looking at the deeper meanings of an individual’s experiences. I view Psychotherapy as open-ended work, supported by a therapist trained in this specific form of therapy. I like to use the analogy of having a wound to describe Psychotherapy: whilst counselling may attend to the wound and put a plaster on it, Psychotherapy will allow us to take a deeper look into the wound, explore what may have caused it and how best to ensure that you are able to look after yourself going forward. It may give you comfort and reassurance to have long term support for your own ongoing personal development.
I take into consideration and incorporate various techniques and approaches to suit the individual and their therapeutic needs. This means that I do not believe in a “one size fits all” approach to therapy, as it would seem limiting to not consider various ways to support a client. I place great emphasis on understanding the individual, through the exploration of their thoughts, feelings and personal experiences. As an Integrative Psychotherapist, I integrate interventions from the Psychoanalytic, Humanistic and Cognitive Behavioural approach.
In addition, I aim to bring to awareness the mind/body states of the client during therapy, through Mindfulness. I seek to clarify meaning by working with the client to bring to awareness any experiences which may have an impact on their self-development. I can acknowledge that it may be challenging to share so openly with a therapist, but it is my therapeutic commitment to ensure that my clients have a safe space to be heard and supported.
